A wonderful absinthe is the absinthe La Valote Martin Belle Epoque from Switzerland. This absinthe is distilled in the town of Motier in the Val de Travers by the distillery La Valote Martin. Back in 2014, the master distiller Francis Martin handed over the distillery to his son Philippe. From then on, he runs the distillery, which is famous for distilling absinthe that is completely traditional according to the old recipes of the Val de Travers.
Let's go straight to this absinthe La Valote Martin Belle Epoque: Traditionally as usual with a Swiss La Bleue, this absinthe is colorless. If you were to ask me personally, the products of the noble brand La Valote especially stand out because of their balanced flavor, which is very noble. The individual components of the herbs, ranging from fennel, anise, wormwood and other absinthe herbs contribute to a very balanced and interesting flavor picture, are harvested here partly by hand. Surprisingly, there is a slightly bitter finish to this absinthe here, but it positively affects the overall taste. We recommend a small sugar cube here when diluting with ice cold water in a ratio of 1:3 - 1:4.
The label is also very successful with this absinthe La Valote Martin Belle Epoque. Even though this is about a sad occasion from 1910. Because it shows the poster of the ban on absinthe in Switzerland, which came into force on September 7, 1910. This date meant the death of the green fairy in Val de Travers and the label clearly shows this with cruel harshness.
When preparing this absinthe with a small sugar cube, you will notice that opalescence immediately occurs just by adding a very small amount of ice cold water. Overall, a very successful and high-quality top product from Switzerland, which is probably one of the best La Bleue from this country.
